A Coin-Funded Getaway to Cholla Bay

Quick Escape to Cholla Bay

Shane and I decided it was time for a little getaway, so we cashed in all of our loose change. After counting everything up, we had over $150 in coins, which felt like the perfect excuse for a trip.

We filled up the gas tank and headed down to Cholla Bay at the beginning of May for a three-day escape to the beach in Mexico.

It was exactly what we needed.

We met up with Katie and Kevin (Shane’s sister and her best friend), along with the two pups, Gracie and Louie. The weekend was spent soaking up the sun, relaxing by the water, and enjoying some much-needed beach time.

Cholla Bay really is such a beautiful place. Between the ocean views, warm weather, and good company, it made for the perfect quick getaway.

The pictures really tell the story of just how great the weekend was.

Perfect ending to a perfect weekend. <3

Midweek Adventures in Cancun

Wednesday

Wednesday turned out to be a really fun day.

We started the morning by doing laundry at a local laundromat, which might be my new favorite discovery. We simply dropped everything off and came back a few hours later to find it all clean and perfectly folded. I honestly cannot believe I have not done this before.

Most of the day was spent running errands, but we saved the fun for the evening.

Almost every night here the sun has completely worn us out and we end up going to bed early. So this time we made a point to stay out of the sun during the day so we could enjoy the night.

We cooked a delicious fish dinner at the condo and then headed down to the pool area for a drink. Two guys were playing some really fun music on a xylophone, which made for a great atmosphere.

After that we headed out to the downtown hotel zone to check out Coco Bongo. It is basically a nightclub mixed with a live performance show. There were dancers performing to all kinds of hit songs from different artists and movies, everything from the Beatles to Beetlejuice.

The performers kept the crowd really involved, and the open bar definitely helped keep the party going. It was a really fun night.

Thursday

Thursday was much more low key.

We were definitely feeling a little hungover from Coco Bongo, so we spent most of the day relaxing on the beach.

Unfortunately I did not take many pictures that day. The only photo I managed to capture was the sunset.

Later that night at 8:35 PM, Erin landed at the Cancun airport, so we headed out to pick her up.

This next week should be pretty eventful now that she is here. The three of us already have a few fun activities planned.

I will try to post updates when I have some free time, though it might be a day or two.

Adventure Day Two

What a long day! I am completely exhausted from everything we did today.

Apparently Shane is too because he is already fast asleep next to me.

Here are a few pictures from our adventures today, including one of Shane squeezed into our tiny rental car. It is pretty hilarious seeing him in such a small car, but it gets us where we need to go.

Tomorrow we are heading out to Chichen Itza, and I am really excited to finally see it in person.

More updates coming soon.

Blackout Dates

I did a little Google image searching today and managed to find a few more pictures of our vacation home.

I found some photos of the condo complex where we will be staying, along with a few shots of the pool area. Seeing pictures of the place made the trip feel even more real and got me even more excited about relaxing there.

While I was browsing the listing, I also noticed the booking calendar for the condo. It was interesting to see all the blackout dates already filled in throughout the year.

It definitely seems like the condo stays pretty busy, which is always a good sign.

My Favorite Hangover Cure

Last night Shane and I went to our friends' bachelor and bachelorette parties. We had such a great time, but this morning I am definitely feeling it.

I am not sure how the boyfriend is doing because he is still asleep. It is currently 1:15 in the afternoon, so I think that tells me everything I need to know.

Despite the slow start today, we really did have a great night.

So what does this have to do with our upcoming trip?

My favorite cure for a hangover has always been the beach. There is just something about being in the sun and floating in the ocean that makes everything feel better. It has always been the perfect reset for me.

Unfortunately I am nowhere near the beach right now. The sun alone is not enough. The ocean has to come with it. For me it is a package deal.

So today I plan to spend the rest of the afternoon napping and dreaming about floating in the ocean.

And of course, I am still counting down the days until our trip.

Getting Ready for Our Mexico Trip (Is It Really September Already?)

Is it really September already? I still have so much preparation to finish and our trip is right around the corner. Time is flying by as we get ready for our upcoming vacation in Mexico.

While doing some travel research today, I found a really helpful site called Cancun Assist. If you are thinking about planning a trip to Cancun or anywhere in Mexico, it is worth checking out. They have a lot of useful travel tips and advice that can make vacation planning much easier.

Life at Home Right Now

Aside from planning our trip, things have been busy at home.

Last week I stopped by the little café where I will be working when we get back from vacation. I am really excited about it. My schedule will be 7 AM to 3 PM at the latest since they close at 2 PM, and I will have every Sunday off. That gives me plenty of time to possibly take on another job and maybe even sign up for a few classes at the local college.

For now I am still working at my current job, but I will be putting in my notice later this month.

Countdown to Vacation

My boyfriend only has three days left at work before his vacation starts. His time off will be a little longer than mine, but it is definitely well deserved.

We also have a long list of projects to work on around the house before and after our Mexico trip.

Our Home Project List

Last year our house flooded, so we ended up gutting most of it and doing the renovations ourselves. We got a lot done, but there are still a few things left to finish.

Here is what we still need to work on:

  • Install trim. We rebuilt most of the house but never finished the molding.

  • Yard work. Our tiny backyard currently looks more like a jungle.

  • Roof coating. This is another project on our house list, but we still need to check if this is the right time of year to apply it.

  • Small indoor projects such as cleaning, painting, and fixing things here and there.

Picking Our Projects Carefully

Some of these projects can get expensive, so we will probably pick and choose which ones to tackle first.

That said, I am really excited for the backyard jungle to disappear, especially since that project is free.

Yay for house work!
